The use of remote activities in conformity assessment is not new, as many industries and sectors have utilised them for decades. The COVID-19 pandemic brought new focus to remote activities. Based on the accumulated experience during the pandemic, the stakeholders in the global conformity assessment community are now evaluating further extending the use of remote conformity assessment activities, as appropriate.

The TIC sector continues to incorporate new techniques, and has significantly accelerated the adoption of remote activities during the pandemic. Specifically, conformity assessment using remote techniques, in most cases and in conjunction with traditional testing, has proven to be the most effective solution to maintaining worldwide trade in compliance with the quality, health, safety and environmental restrictions imposed by the pandemic while, at the same time, ensuring the integrity of products and services, enhancing sustainability, and achieving a measure of CO2 reduction. There is now a renewed emphasis in their routine incorporation in conformity assessment.

After publishing earlier this year a Guidance Document on the subjectTIC Council, the global voice of the testing, inspection and certification sector, is pleased to announce – in a joint partnership with Cotecna - our upcoming webinar on Remote Activities of Conformity Assessment, bringing together experts and stakeholders to discuss and share the current views of the TIC industry on the use of remote conformity assessment activities. Among the topics that will be discussed, there will be a particular focus on their strengths and weaknesses, how the scope of the technology is changing and an overview of the needs and requests from the clients.
