On Thursday, 18 November 2021TIC Council hosted a webinar entitled: "Safety Data Requirements and Petrochemical Shipments”.

The webinar opened with welcoming remarks by Peter Boks, TIC Council Global Board Sponsor to the Commodities Committee who as well briefly outlined previous safety conferences organised by TIC Council.

Toine Van MoorselGlobal HSE and Dangerous Goods Manager, Saybolt, provided an overview of the webinar objectives, namely to build a better, more coherent and aligned understanding in the stakeholder group of how safety data sheets (SDS) are to be shared and communicated. The presentation was then handed over to Richard TaylorGlobal Data Services Manager, SGS who began with detailing SDS regulatory requirements and basic awareness elements, overviewing several common issues in SDS communication and provision.

Examples were given of incidents that have occurred due to poor SDS hazard communication, resulting in a case involving severe skin irritation as well as a case which resulted in mass scale injury and asset damage.

The webinar concluded with a brief Q&A session and was then closed by Peter Boks who encouraged participants to continue to spread positive safety awareness and delivered a reminder that TIC Council intends to hold similar interactive webinar sessions until physical conferences may resume.
