Washington D.C., October 31st, 2024 TIC Council is thrilled to announce the appointment of Richard O’Brien as Executive Director for the Americas, marking a new era of leadership for the organization.

O’Brien brings a powerhouse of expertise across both government and private sectors, with a sharp focus on international standards and market development. His deep industry knowledge will be instrumental as TIC Council continues to champion the Testing, Inspection, and Certification (TIC) sector.

“Rich’s career spans a wide range of industries and global organizations. His experience and insights are a perfect match for the diversity of TIC Council’s membership and their expansive customer base,” said Hanane Taidi, Director General of TIC Council.

Excited about his new role, O’Brien remarked, “I’m eager to join such a dynamic, global association that represents the voice of the TIC sector. With sustainability and digitalization at the forefront, TIC plays a crucial role in ensuring these transitions are executed responsibly. I look forward to driving this mission across the Americas.”

O’Brien’s impressive background includes his recent role as Director of International Programs at the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC). With experience across various federal agencies and in the U.S. Foreign Service, he’s led efforts in global standards policy and market access for diverse sectors—ranging from electronics and food to telecommunications and energy.

A graduate of George Washington University with a Master’s in International Affairs, O’Brien also holds a Bachelor’s in Mass Communications from Towson State University. He is a U.S. Air Force and Coast Guard Reserve veteran, having lived and worked in countries such as South Korea, the Netherlands, and the UK.
