TIC Council Americas has been accepted by the Organization of American States (OAS) as a Registered Civil Society Organization. This milestone opens new opportunities for TIC Council to actively contribute its wealth of expertise in testing, inspection, and certification to the diverse committees of the OAS.
Rich O’Brien, TIC Council Americas Executive Director, emphasized the importance of this development, noting, “TIC Council is the international, non-profit voice of the testing, inspection and certification industry. Our trade association brings together over 100 member companies and organizations active in more than 160 countries, spanning every continent and proving daily that verification is the essential ingredient of trust. This is an opportunity for our organization to share the knowledge and experience of our member companies to support important OAS public policy initiatives throughout the Americas.”
Verification and assurance services are critical to successful policy implementation by Member States of the OAS, as they develop measures at the national level to ensure consumer product safety, suppress illegal trade in protected biomaterials and organisms, validate green claims, and assure the validity of food purity certifications, among others.
TIC Council Americas looks forward to a productive engagement with the OAS and its members as they work to improve the lives of the people of the Americas.
The Organization of American States (OAS) is the oldest regional organization in the world, originally founded during the First International Conference of American States in 1889-1890. Officially established in 1948 with the signing of the OAS Charter in Bogotá, it promotes peace, justice, solidarity, and collaboration among the 35 independent states of the Americas. The OAS focuses on four key pillars: democracy, human rights, security, and development. It constitutes the main political, juridical, and social governmental forum in the Western Hemisphere, with 70 permanent observer states, including the European Union.
